Dallas ISD Board of Trustees election results

Trustee Dustin Marshall and Lori Kirkpatrick are headed to a runoff for the District 2 trustee seat. Neither candidate received at least 50 percent of the vote on May 6. The runoff election will be June 10. District 2 covers North and Near East Dallas. Meanwhile, Trustee Joyce Foreman won reelection for the District 6 trustee seat, which covers Southwest Dallas. Trustee Miguel Solis, who ran unopposed, won reelection for the District 8 seat, which covers Love Field, Northwest Dallas and Central Dallas.

The Dallas Independent School District celebrated School Nutrition Employee Week by honoring five exemplary schools with the annual Heart of Child Nutrition Award. These five schools were recognized for going above and beyond to provide exceptional food and a positive experience to students. Each day last week a director from Food & Child Nutrition Services (FCNS) visited an awarded school to present the certificate and prizes, and put on a hairnet to serve lunch on the cafeteria line. Students tackle issue of school vouchers in Mayor’s Cup debate

Four Dallas ISD students competed in the Inaugural Mayor’s Cup on April 27, hosted by Mayor Mike Rawlings and the Dallas Urban Debate Alliance. The topic for debate was to discuss how education vouchers leave the most needy students behind. Students debating in support of the statement were Kathy Nguyen, North Dallas High School; and Victor Peña, Thomas Jefferson High School. Debating against the statement were Ricardo Rodriguez, W.T. White High School; and Sophie Rahman, School of Science and Engineering. The competition judges picked Nguyen and Peña as the winners.
