The application period is open through Jan. 31 to apply to attend a Dallas ISD magnet school, transformation school, Two-Way Dual Language program or collegiate academy for the 2017-2018 school year. Public invited to meetings to learn, provide feedback on proposed 2017–2018 budget

Dallas ISD has scheduled 10 public meetings to provide information and receive feedback on the proposed 2017–2018 budget. All budget sessions are from 6:30–7:30 p.m. At the sessions, both parents and community partners will engage in three different budget activities: Show Me the Money, which educates participants on where money is being spent; Budget Deficit Puzzle, which challenges participants to reduce funds; Fantasy Wish List, which challenges participants to allocate money. Hawthorne Elementary receives Power Up donation from Softchoice

Students at Dallas ISD’s Nathaniel Hawthorne Elementary School got a nice surprise on Friday, Jan. 27 – a donation of 70 laptops for students to use in their classrooms. The Softchoice Cares POWER UP grant is valued at $10,000, and funded the purchase of enough Lenovo laptops for each Hawthorne student in grades 3-5 to have one to use in their classes. The school is one of five across the country to receive the donation. After an assembly to make an announcement, students got busy using the laptops right away on a project. Dallas ISD’s Transformation Schools offer specialized academic programming, similar to magnet schools. Unlike magnet schools, Transformation Schools do not have any academic entry requirements — they are open enrollment for all students across the entire district, regardless of academic ability.
