0A pinning celebration recognized the 36 students in the Samuell Early College High School (ECHS) program who are graduating high school with an associate degree. At the emotional event, the 36 students thanked the people who helped them succeed in the rigorous program. This is the second Samuell ECHS class to graduate with their associate degree: 24 students in the Class of 2016 graduated with their associate degree. Dallas ISD students run away with 28 medals at State Track and Field Championships
0Dallas ISD competed in the 2017 UIL State Track and Field Championships and ran away with 28 medals. The Carter High School Girls Track and Field team is the 2017 4A State Champions, and the school’s Boys Track and Field team is the 2017 4A State Runner-Up. The district overall had 34 student-athletes compete in 20 events. Sha’Carri Richardson of Carter High School set the record last year for the 100-meter dash, and then broke that record this year. Students headed to West Point’s Middle School STEM workshop (video)
0Four Dallas ISD students will attend the prestigious West Point Middle School STEM workshop in New York City later this month. The Center for Leadership and Diversity in STEM is hosting the workshop that is open to sixth- and seventh-graders who have demonstrated strong academic performance and an interest in pursuing college. Proposed changes to TEI incorporate feedback from teachers, staff
0District leaders briefed trustees on proposed changes to the Teacher Excellence Initiative that incorporate feedback from teachers, staff and stakeholders. TEI is a continuous improvement model for strategic compensation that seeks to define, support and reward teacher excellence. Under one proposed change, teachers at Proficient I and above would receive performance retention increases on top of their base salaries if they stay at the same effectiveness level. Survey results show that 80 percent of teachers believe such an increase would make TEI more fair.
