Dallas ISD high schools release list of top graduates in the Class of 2017

Learn which members of Dallas ISD’s Class of 2017 have risen to the top of the academic rankings at its 36 high schools with our list of valedictorians (ranked No. 1) and salutatorians (ranked No. 2). Commencement ceremonies began May 25 and continue until Monday, June 5. Find the schedule here. The valedictorians and salutatorians are listed below, in order of their school’s commencements. Program encourages healthy habits with 21 days of nutritious snacks

Nine Dallas ISD elementary schools were recognized for their participation in Medical City Children’s Hospital’s kids teaching kids 21-Day Challenge on Thursday, May 25. Snacks were developed by high school culinary arts students. Schools were recognized by having the most participants in the challenge, which encouraged healthy eating and habits. Each day, students were asked to prepare and eat a healthy snack that contained a fruit or vegetable, either using recipes from the program’s book or other healthy options. Approved plan will give district flexibility on school start date, hiring hard-to-fill teaching spots

Trustees approved a plan Thursday night that will give Dallas ISD more control regarding when the school year starts, as well as allow the district more flexibility in hiring hard-to-fill select teaching positions. The Texas Legislature passed a bill that allows Texas school districts to pursue a District of Innovation (DOI) designation. The designation gives districts such as Dallas ISD most of the flexibilities available to the state’s open-enrollment charter schools. More than 100 independent school districts in Texas have approved the DOI designation. Trustees earlier this year appointed representatives to a DOI Committee, which then created a proposed plan.…

Early voting starts May 30 for District 2 trustee runoff election

Early voting starts May 30 for the runoff election for the District 2 trustee seat. Trustee Dustin Marshall and Lori Kirkpatrick are in the runoff for the seat that covers North and Near East Dallas. Neither candidate received at least 50 percent of the vote on May 6. Early voting is May 30–June 6. Election day is June 10. Go here to see polling locations for early voting and election day.
