The deadline to apply for student transfers for the 2018-2019 school year is March 31. Since last year, students in Dallas ISD may apply for a transfer from their assigned school to another district school for any reason. Approvals are based on space being available for the grade level requested. In addition to current Dallas ISD students, those who live in another school district may apply to attend a Dallas ISD school – as long as space is available for their grade at their chosen campus. The STEM-Computer Science and Technology Department wishes to congratulate the four schools that have advanced to the VEX IQ Robotics World Championship set for April 30 in Kentucky. Two middle-school teams emerged from the sixth-grade Dallas ISD Futsal Tournament this month to earn a trip next summer to Disney World to compete against teams from across the globe. The sixth-graders participated in non-coed divisions. The winning boys team is from Stockard Middle School, led by Coach Brent Bleasdell. The winning girls team is from Spence Middle School and is led by Coach Scott Brothers. Both will compete in the United Scholastic Futsal World Championships in July in Orlando. The National Football Foundation (NFF) Gridiron Club of Dallas Chapter recognized 22 Dallas ISD scholar-athletes for their accomplishments during the chapter’s 10th Annual Awards Banquet on March 18. Selected from a pool of candidates that covers the entire region, high school players earned NFF chapter scholar-athlete recognition in 2018 after a rigorous review. The selection committee, comprised of coaches, teachers, administrators and business leaders from North Texas, evaluated the college and high school candidates based on their athletic accomplishments, academic performance and leadership in the community. Dallas ISD trustees were briefed on a proposal to open three new transformation schools in August with learning models that have been successful on other campuses. Transformation schools offer specialized academic programming, similar to magnet schools, but without academic entry requirements. The three new proposed transformation schools are: A single-gender elementary school for boys that would mirror the successful model of Solar Preparatory School for Girls; A personalized learning elementary school that would mirror the successful model of Dan D. The Dallas ISD Office of Transformation and Innovation announced plans today for seven new choice schools. The schools are the finalists from the latest Public School Choice Proposal Process, where educators can create high-quality, best-fit options for Dallas ISD students to realize their full academic potential. This year’s proposal process resulted in twice as many finalists as previous cycles. These seven schools were selected from a pool of 14 proposals that were submitted into the district’s most recent Public School Choice proposal selection process, which was was open to educators locally and nationwide.
