Eric Hale, a Kindergarten and First Grade Teacher at David G. Burnet Elementary School, was named 2021 Region 10 Elementary Teacher of the Year at a special virtual celebration on July 30. The event, hosted by Region 10 Education Service Center, recognizes all teachers of the year from school districts in the north central Texas region. Dallas ISD is hiring substitute teachers for the upcoming school year to help assist with in-person and virtual virtual learning. The district is looking for candidates who have a minimum of 60 college hours or a bachelor’s degree; however, they are not required to be certified. Interested potential candidates can go here to learn more and apply. Mayor Eric Johnson announced that the 24th annual Dallas Mayor’s Back to School Fair will take place Aug. 20 and Aug. 21. The fair has traditionally served as a time-saving, one-stop shop that offers school supplies and a wealth of information and community resources. More than 600 Dallas ISD educators on Monday attended a webinar on “Self-Care, Healing, & Equity-Responsive Practices When the World Feels Heavy” led by Dena Simmons, Ed.D., Assistant Director of the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence. Dallas-based education nonprofit, United to Learn, shared that it will partner with an additional 25 Dallas ISD elementary schools. The new schools double the number of campuses benefitting from United to Learn’s work, which aims to eliminate resource gaps and accelerate student achievement—now across 52 Dallas ISD elementary schools. During the July 23 called board meeting, the Dallas Independent School District’s Board of Trustees approved several changes to the 2020-21 school year calendar. The approved changes to the calendar, which you can see here, are: The first day of school moves from Aug. 17 to Sept. 8.
