More than 150 Dallas ISD teachers will attend a professional development training this summer at the Annette Caldwell Simmons School of Education at Southern Methodist University.

Approximately 245 Dallas ISD teachers applied for the opportunity to attend the training happening at SMU July 20–Aug. 6. Dallas ISD partnered with SMU to design the program.

Dallas ISD will cover the $3,000 per teacher tuition. The curriculum will focus on increasing classroom effectiveness and improving classroom instructional practice. The teacher professional development training will support novice, progressing and distinguished level teachers with the goal of helping them advance within the Teacher Excellence Initiative’s evaluation spectrum.

“The idea is that this is differentiated support for teachers that takes them from where they are, what they know, and what they do well, and builds on those strengths so they can see themselves growing,” said Dr. David Chard, dean of the SMU Simmons School of Education. “It gives them ample practice opportunities so they can begin to master the kind of pedagogical tools that evidence suggests are going to help them be as effective as they can be.”
