    This Week in Dallas ISD: Dec. 9 edition

    Congratulations to our outstanding Dallas ISD Principals of the Year who were recognized and honored this morning!

    Today’s celebration brings to a close an especially busy week, which started with representatives from all schools participating in the Discover Dallas ISD Fair.

    Principals of the Year

    These campus leaders were named today as the Dallas ISD Principals of the Year. Also, the 12 Principal of the Year finalists were honored for their incredible work. (Learn more)

    Discovering Dallas ISD

    Representatives from all 228 schools attended the Discover Dallas ISD Fair to show families what their campuses have to offer. (Watch this)

    Diabetes supplies donation

    Louisiana-based rapper Torrence Hatch donated diabetes supplies and talked with students at Dade Middle School. (Read this)

    Money matters

    Dallas ISD earned a state award from the Texas Association of School Business Officials for its solid financial practices. (Read this)

    Wolf surprises students

    Dealey student Aiden Ross got the surprise of a lifetime when he received a signed headshot and personal note from his personal hero, Wolf Blitzer. (Watch this)

    Application window 

    The application window is now open to enroll to attend a Dallas ISD magnet school, transformation school, Two-Way dual Language program, or collegiate academy for next school year. The application window closes Jan. 31. (Applications available online)

    Holiday hoops

    The Athletics Department held a media conference to announce the 77th Annual Holiday Invitational, the district’s longstanding basketball tournament. The tournament is Dec. 28-30. (Learn more)

    Design firm donation

    Interior design firm Looney and Associates closed its office to deliver furniture and recess equipment to Ray Elementary. The firm also donated a washer and dryer set to the school. (See photos)

    Here are the details on how the district decides to close schools and how that decision is communicated. (Learn more)

    Early release days

    Dallas ISD schools will have early release days in December, with a shorter day on Dec. 22 for elementary schools and shorter days Dec. 20-22 for secondary schools. (Learn more)
