A $20 million investment by Dallas ISD will allow the district to deploy iPads to approximately 46,000 students in pre-K through 2nd grade and Chromebooks for 14,000 students in grades 3–5 prior to the start of school on Sept. 8. The Dallas ISD Technology Department will host technology deployment events at each elementary school campus in the weeks leading up to the start of school. Eric Hale, a Kindergarten and First Grade Teacher at David G. Burnet Elementary School, was named 2021 Region 10 Elementary Teacher of the Year at a special virtual celebration on July 30. The event, hosted by Region 10 Education Service Center, recognizes all teachers of the year from school districts in the north central Texas region. The Teacher of the Year Program, sponsored by the Texas Association of School Administrators, allows districts to submit one elementary and one secondary candidate to compete at the regional and state levels. Dallas-based education nonprofit, United to Learn, shared that it will partner with an additional 25 Dallas ISD elementary schools. The new schools double the number of campuses benefitting from United to Learn’s work, which aims to eliminate resource gaps and accelerate student achievement—now across 52 Dallas ISD elementary schools. With a mission of changing lives by transforming the relationship between schools and community, United to Learn has proven its model for mobilizing community partners to support Dallas public schools.
