No matter how you say “welcome” in their native tongue, staff at the Dallas Independent School District’s Margaret and Gilbert Herrera Student Intake Center always find a way of warmly welcoming new-to-the-country immigrant students to Dallas ISD. “The Student Intake Center plays a crucial role in providing an affectionate greeting to families new to the country and helping them acclimate academically and socially,” said Amanda Clymer, director of the Student Intake Center. “Our goal is to make families feel welcome and to empower them with information about Dallas ISD and community resources as they begin a new life in this…

Medina was one of about 1,000 new Dallas ISD teachers who came to Fair Park on Aug. 8 as part of New Teacher Academy. The event provided the new teachers with the information and resources they…

Nearly 3,800 Dallas ISD students are enrolled this upcoming school year in 23 collegiate academies and Early College High Schools (ECHS) where they can earn up to 60 hours of college credit or an associate degree—at no cost to them—while earning a high school diploma. Dallas ISD and the Dallas County Community College District (DCCCD) operate the collegiate academies that have proven very successful. All 17 of the new collegiate academies received the Texas Education Agency (TEA) ECHS designation for the 2017-2018 school year. TEA awarded Early College High School (ECHS) designation to only 41 campuses throughout the state. The…
