Seagoville P-TECH student’s business plan nets top honor at Biz Camp
0Amari DeFrance, a student at Dallas ISD’s Seagoville P-TECH, won the top prize at the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship Biz Camp this summer. She was the first participant from Texas to compete in the Biz Camp summer program. Students create business ideas and work to complete a business plan. Amari’s plan took first among all Biz Camp students in the United States, and netted her a $1,000 prize. She will present her plan for “Amari’s City of Scrub” at the NFTE National Business Competition in October in New York City. NFTE is an industry partner with Seagoville P-TECH. More Dallas ISD schools meet standard, show large gains
0Nearly 94 percent of schools in the Dallas Independent School District “Met Standard,” according to the Texas Education Agency’s (TEA) accountability ratings for the 2016-2017 school year. According to TEA data released this week, 218 of 233 eligible district campuses achieved the standard. The most significant progress in this year’s results was a reduction in the number of Improvement Required schools (IR), which fell from 21 schools in the previous year to 15, or 6 percent districtwide in the new rankings. Uniform assistance available for Dallas ISD students
0Aside from school supplies, school uniforms are a primary need for many students going into the new school year. Families of students in preK–eighth grade in need of uniform assistance can contact their campus’ uniform coordinator for help in obtaining a uniform. Parents requesting uniform assistance must meet income eligibility guidelines and complete the Socioeconomic Information form to determine their eligibility. They also must fill out the Uniform Assistance Program application. Both forms are provided by their campus’ uniform coordinator and returned to that coordinator once they are completed.
