Dallas ISD to immediately implement stricter security protocols at sporting events
0Superintendent Michael Hinojosa said Dallas ISD is immediately implementing new protocols following a Jan. 11 shooting at a district basketball game. Effective Jan. 13–17, bags, purses and backpacks will not be allowed into sporting events. Starting Jan. 20 only clear bags will be allowed into sporting events. The district will also use wand metal detectors as people enter district sporting events. Bond proposal could address longtime historical inequities across Dallas
0In addition to improving aging school facilities across the district, a proposal could leverage a 2020 bond election to address longtime historical inequities in neighborhoods that were redlined and segregated decades ago. Sobering data shows how redlining–which was the historical practice of denying access of services to certain races or ethnicities living in certain areas–directly correlates to current areas of high poverty and high needs in the City of Dallas. 0Dallas ISD is joining 1,025 school districts throughout Texas to celebrate January as School Board Recognition Month. Serving as a link between the community and classroom, school board members are elected to serve as unpaid volunteers who establish the policies that provide the framework for Dallas ISD schools. This year’s theme for School Board Recognition Month is “Launching the Next Generation.” Dallas ISD will be celebrating School Board Recognition Month throughout January. New downtown Montessori school and South Dallas arts academy now accepting applications
0Two exciting new schools opening in August are now accepting applications! A new Dallas ISD Montessori school opening in Downtown Dallas and the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Arts Academy will provide even more education options to area families. The downtown Montessori school will open by serving students in pre-K through second-grade. The school will first open at the University of North Texas building on Main Street, while the district works to identify a permanent location.
