Incoming ninth-graders can develop workforce-ready skills at Career Institutes
0Current eight-graders can register online to attend a Dallas ISD Career Institute (CI), where they can learn and master skills that are in high demand in a variety of industries. The district’s three CIs offer industry-standard training and career and technical education in eight diverse pathways. Upon completion of each pathway course, students can earn industry-based certifications and become workforce-ready for high-skill, high-paying, high-demand jobs. Dallas ISD to launch Reading Academies to increase number of students reading at grade level
0Dallas ISD is gearing up for the district’s Reading Academies, launching this fall. The academies are the district’s response to last year’s passage of Texas House Bill 3, which requires all kindergarten through third-grade teachers and elementary principals to complete a 10-day reading academy before the end of the 2022-2023 school year. For Dallas ISD, this is an opportunity to help meet the Board of Trustee’s goal of having at least 60 percent of our students reading at grade level in third grade by 2025. Dallas ISD, Fort Worth ISD and Univision launch educational television segment Unidos Para Aprender
0Dallas ISD is joining forces with Fort Worth ISD and Univision DFW, to launch Unidos para Aprender (Together to Learn), 58-minutes of daily instruction in Spanish for students in grades pre-K through second grade. The segment will air Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m., on KSTR UniMas 49, Univision DFW’s local sister station beginning May 11. 0For the last 19 years, the supermarket chain based in San Antonio has honored outstanding professionals from Texas public schools. At a special May 5 ceremony of the Excellence in Education Awards program held on Zoom, H-E-B Food/Drug Stores President Scott McClelland credited the incredible progress Dallas ISD has made over the past five years. “DISD has done so many things well, you have really become the blueprint for what big urban school districts can achieve,” McClelland said.
