New hiring initiative aims to increase presence of Black male educators in Dallas ISD
0As part of an initiative aimed at recruiting teachers who represent the students they serve, Dallas ISD has hired 12 Black male professionals and put them on the path toward becoming licensed teachers who will lead classrooms next semester. The Adjunct Teacher Dallas Residency Program is designed to recruit Black male teachers to serve in high-priority campuses. 0Jonathan Lopez last year made a big switch from working in commercial refrigeration to teaching Dual Language Principles of Construction and HVAC 1 at the Dallas ISD North Dallas Career Institute. After graduating from Townview School of Business in 2014, Lopez attended a trade school and got his degree in air conditioning and then started his career in the field working in commercial refrigeration and residential HVAC. Trustees approve administration’s hybrid learning proposal
0The Dallas ISD Board of Trustees approved a hybrid learning proposal brought forward by the administration that will allow students the option of on-campus learning while also prioritizing safety and social distancing. The board approved ratifying a waiver to the Texas Education Agency to include the hybrid learning model. High schools are implementing a hybrid model where students spend some days distance learning and other days on-campus. Dallas ISD to begin shipping out 10,000 additional mobile internet hotspots directly to students
0Since school buildings unexpectedly closed in March due to the Covid-19 threat, Dallas ISD has distributed over 22,000 mobile internet hotspots and cellular-enabled devices to students lacking reliable internet service at home. This week Dallas ISD received its Operation Connectivity order of 10,000 additional mobile internet hotspots and plans to expedite processing by shipping those units directly to student homes.
