Stephanie Elizalde formally named Dallas ISD’s next superintendent
0The Dallas ISD Board of Trustees today formally named Stephanie Elizalde as the district’s next superintendent. The vote followed a 21-day state-mandated waiting period after trustees named Elizalde as the lone finalist. Elizalde most recently served as the superintendent of the Austin Independent School District, serving more than 80,000 students and 12,000 employees. Prior to this role, Elizalde served as the chief of school leadership for Dallas ISD. A native Texan, Elizalde is a third-generation public school educator who has served students in various roles, including as teacher, principal, assistant superintendent and deputy chief. These hardworking and tenacious seniors earned the prestigious honor of holding the highest and second-highest ranks, respectively, among their graduating class. Summer is here
0Starting the week of June 6, the district will be closed on Fridays as central staff employees begin to work the summer schedule four-day week from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. During the summer, the district will be closed on June 20 in recognition of Juneteenth, which is now a federal holiday. The district will also be closed for summer break July 4-8. All central staff will return to work on July 11. Dallas ISD announces launch of Newcomer Academy at Thomas Jefferson High School
0Thomas Jefferson High School, in collaboration with the Dual Language ESL Department, will launch a Newcomer Academy during the 2022-2023 school year to provide additional support to students who are recent immigrants and English language learners. The Newcomer Academy will serve 9th and 10th grade Jefferson High scholars who are new to the country – approximately 240 students – by placing teachers who are ESL-certified and content-certified and who will be trained to provide instruction that promotes simultaneous mastery of content and language. “The goal is for the students to be learning English and getting content knowledge, like math, science,…
