Smart City Networks, a leading telecommunication provider for convention centers and meeting facilities, recently donated $10,000 to Maple Lawn Elementary to renovate the school’s soccer field. To celebrate the completion of the renovation, Maple Lawn Elementary staff took on students in a soccer game on Monday on the renovated field. Trustee Miguel Solis, Dallas City Councilman Adam Medrano, and Smart City Networks President Mark Haley were among the VIPs who joined staff and students in the soccer game. The Center for Digital Education has named Dallas ISD as a top school board/district in the nation for its use of technology. Dallas ISD was ranked among the top 10 large school districts in the survey. Texans are asked to do four things this week: sweat more, shop healthy, serve their communities and pledge to support a healthier Texas. A kickoff event on Monday, April 4, at Dallas ISD’s Thelma Elizabeth Page Richardson Elementary School fulfilled at least the first directive. The initiative is coordinated by nonprofit organization IT’S TIME TEXAS, which focuses on making a healthy lifestyle easier in the state. Underwater robot competition. Those three words pretty much sum up the Dallas SeaPerch Regional Competition happening this Saturday at Loos Natatorium, 3815 Spring Valley Road. The regional competition will feature 67 teams—19 of which come from Dallas ISD—competing for a chance to move on to the SeaPerch National Challenge happening in May in Baton Rouge. The teams, which each built their robots, are grouped into middle school and high school divisions. Conrad High School is hosting a community health fair on Saturday, April 2. Junior and senior students in the Academy of Health Science and the high school’s HOSA – Future Health Professionals Club will help lead the fair.  Students will provide health education through poster displays, scientific models and demonstrations. Anyone interested in learning more about the teaching positions available in Dallas ISD should register for the April 2 job fair at Ellis Davis Field House. This is the first large-scale hiring event this year for the district. Nearly all of the district’s 228 schools will be in attendance at the job fair, which starts at 9 a.m. and ends at noon.
