At a special in-class ceremony, Kroger donated more than 5,000 school supply kits and $14,000 in Kroger gift cards to help all students succeed. It’s the first day of school at the Young Male Leadership Academy at Fred F. About a week before the first day of school on Aug. 20, school nurses from across Dallas ISD gathered to learn ways to stop bleeding in emergency situations with tourniquets and gauze. The “Stop the Bleed” training was designed to better protect students and campus staff. When seconds count and a life is on the line, Dallas ISD nurses will be ready to respond. The nurses practiced applying tourniquets – a device that stops the flow of blood – on each other. They also practiced techniques for packing open wounds (using a simulator) with gauze. Ayer, la Agencia de Educación de Texas (TEA) dio a conocer los resultados del nuevo sistema de evaluación de las escuelas en el que queda demostrado que el Dallas ISD está logrando avances notables. El nuevo sistema, conocido como “A through F”, otorga una calificación a los distritos escolares basándose en el aprovechamiento académico, el progreso/crecimiento de las escuelas, y en la reducción de la brecha en el rendimiento de los estudiantes. On Aug. 14, teachers and staff from the 35 schools in the Dallas ISD Southeast Schools Network convened at Loos Field House for a packed pep rally. The Southeast comprises schools in the W.W. Samuell, H. Grady Spruce, Seagoville and Wilmer-Hutchins high school feeder patterns. Marvin Dulaney has seen first-hand how bringing a multicultural approach to history and social studies helps students see themselves in the curriculum.
