A new Dallas ISD Montessori school could be coming to Downtown Dallas. The Board of Trustees on Dec. 5 heard details of the proposal to open the Montessori school next school year. With 2,035 applications for 400 seats this year at four schools, Dallas ISD has seen a big demand for its Montessori program. Their coffee comes from the Woodrow Percolators, a coffee cart staffed by students with special needs. From French Vanilla and Caramel flavored coffee to decaf Peach Honey Tea, the students take orders throughout the day and handle all aspects of running the cart. Bryan Adams High School freshman Kaveion Morris was walking from his home to the bus stop when he heard a toddler crying near the pool of an apartment complex. When he got a closer look, he saw the crying toddler was pointing to a young girl drowning in the pool. Morris jumped in the pool and rescued the young girl, while his BA classmate called the police for an ambulance. Toyota and United Way of Metropolitan Dallas provided grants to almost 20 educators from five Dallas ISD schools on Monday. The “DRIVE presented by Toyota” grant provides financial support to select educators in the Adamson and Pinkston feeder patterns. Each awardee received a monetary donation ranging from $500–$2,500. The purpose is to equip teachers with tools and resources to enhance learning.
