The Dallas ISD Uniform Assistance Program (UAP) offers one free uniform (one top, one bottom) to eligible students in grades PK-8th each school year. The program issues uniforms to qualified students in the official district colors, which are white for the top and khaki, black and navy for the bottoms. In addition to these colors, the Uniform Assistance Program also provides red and navy tops. Bottoms available include pants, skirts, skirts, and shorts. David G. Burnet Elementary School teacher Eric Hale is the 2021 Texas Teacher of the Year! The announcement was made Sept. 30 during the virtual Texas Association of School Administrators and Texas Association of School Boards Convention. He was one of six finalists across the state and will now represent Texas in the National Teacher of the Year program in the spring. Curbside meal grab-and-go service now open to all children Starting Thursday, Oct.1, all children ages 1–18 can pick up a week’s worth of meals at no charge through curbside grab-and-go service at participating Dallas ISD schools. National Hispanic Heritage Month gives us a chance to recognize the stories, contributions, achievements, and lived experiences of those leaders who embrace the culture as their own and educate our youth. Richard Heffernan is currently the executive director of the Bilingual ESL department. As part of an initiative aimed at recruiting teachers who represent the students they serve, Dallas ISD has hired 12 Black male professionals and put them on the path toward becoming licensed teachers who will lead classrooms next semester. The Adjunct Teacher Dallas Residency Program is designed to recruit Black male teachers to serve in high-priority campuses. Jonathan Lopez last year made a big switch from working in commercial refrigeration to teaching Dual Language Principles of Construction and HVAC 1 at the Dallas ISD North Dallas Career Institute. After graduating from Townview School of Business in 2014, Lopez attended a trade school and got his degree in air conditioning and then started his career in the field working in commercial refrigeration and residential HVAC.
