As a two-year reconstruction project begins, students from Geneva Heights Elementary said goodbye to a school building that has been serving the Dallas community since 1931. The farewell ceremony was held on Friday, May 27, for faculty members, students and parents to say goodbye before the existing structure is demolished. As part of the farewell, attendees were given markers to write their own personal goodbye messages on the walls. First-year teacher and native Korean speaker, Soo Mee Park shares her culture while teaching Korean to kindergarten through second grade at Preston Hollow Elementary School and sixth through eighth grade at Jesus Moroles Expressive Arts Vanguard. Dunbar Learning Center recibió su nueva “cancha de ensueño,” gracias a Nancy Lieberman Charities, en colaboración con Dallas ISD, Tiger 21 y el Departamento de Policía de Dallas. On Tuesday, May 3, Paul L. Dunbar Learning Center welcomed its newest “dream court,” thanks to Nancy Lieberman Charities, which partnered with Dallas ISD, Tiger 21 and the Dallas Police Department. This effort was made possible by a $160,000 donation to cover the state-of-the-art outdoor basketball court, a supply of brand new basketballs and hand-painted floor murals with games like leapfrog and hopscotch. More than 600 sixth graders from 27 Dallas ISD middle schools participated recently in the Model United Nations conference. During the conference, held April 26th at the Ellis Davis Fieldhouse and sponsored by the Social Studies department, students represented different countries and presented resolutions on their global sustainable goals. Students also enjoyed guest speaker Chris Gardner, the man behind the story from the motion picture, “Pursuit of Happyness.” They were able to ask Mr. Gardner questions as he encouraged students to be the one to make a difference. Youth Art Month is back and in person this year, following a shutdown in 2020 and a virtual art show last year due to the pandemic. With more than 600 pieces, this year’s exhibit, which runs from now until May 7, showcases a collection of student artwork and, for the first time ever, features teacher art work as well.
