June 2026 Dallas ISD Board of Trustees meetings recap

The Dallas ISD Board of Trustees met on June 25 for the last meeting of the 2025-2026 school year.

Below are highlights.

Board approves updates to Student Code of Conduct for 2026-2027 school year

The Board of Trustees approved the Dallas ISD Student Code of Conduct for the 2026-2027 school year. Required by law, it outlines student responsibilities, behavioral expectations, and disciplinary procedures for all campuses.

The Student Code of Conduct includes fees related to retrieving confiscated mobile devices. Under the policy, students may be charged a fee ranging from $5 to $15 to retrieve a confiscated cell phone. All confiscated devices must be turned in to the principal’s office as soon as practicable.

Board approves renaming of Cesar Chavez Learning Center

The Board unanimously approved the renaming of Cesar Chavez Learning Center to East Dallas Elementary School.

The new name will take effect for the 2026-2027 school year.

Board establishes 2026 Bond Advisory Committee

Trustees also approved the charter establishing the 2026 Bond Advisory Committee.

The committee will provide independent community oversight, transparency, and accountability for the implementation of the voter-approved 2026 Bond Program.

Members will monitor schedules and budgets, evaluate community engagement efforts, provide recommendations to support transparency, efficiency, and accountability throughout the bond program, review community engagement and communication efforts related to bond projects, ensure compliance with policy, and much more.

The committee will provide quarterly updates to the superintendent and Board of Trustees throughout the life of the bond program.

Board advances bond-funded construction projects across the district

The Board of Trustees approved several items supporting the implementation of Dallas ISD’s bond program.

Approved projects included construction at Adelio Williams Career Institute East, additions and renovations to Kleberg Elementary School and Bishop Arts STEAM Academy.

Trustees also approved agreements and procurement methods that will support the planning, design, construction, and management of bond-funded projects throughout the district.

Board approves International Baccalaureate agreement

The Board of Trustees approved agreements with a group of vendors to provide professional development, instructional materials, and implementation resources for Dallas ISD’s International Baccalaureate programs.

The agreements will support the district’s growing IB program, which has expanded from nine authorized schools in 2020 to 15 in 2026. The resources will help teachers and campus staff implement International Baccalaureate standards and support continued access to rigorous learning opportunities for students.

Board appoints trustee to School Safety and Security Committee

The Board of Trustees approved the appointment of Trustee Lance Currie to serve on the Dallas ISD School Safety and Security Committee for a two-year term beginning with the 2026-2027 school year.

Required by law, the committee works with district leaders, first responders, and community partners to develop and implement emergency preparedness plans, provide recommendations based on best practices, and more.

Board Briefing updates

District leadership provided the Board of Trustees with updates on key district priorities during the June 11 briefing.

Below is the main takeaway.

Dallas ISD reports gains on preliminary STAAR results

Trustees received an update on preliminary 2026 STAAR results, which show Dallas ISD students are making meaningful academic gains across grade levels and subjects. In addition to growth on grade-level assessments, Dallas ISD students scored at or above the state average in several STAAR End-of-Course categories.

Across all tested subjects, the percentage of students approaching grade-level expectations increased four percentage points, from 69% to 73%. Even more notably, the percentage of students achieving the Meets grade level standard rose six points, from 44% to 50%, while students reaching the Masters grade level standard increased four points, from 19% to 23%.

The results reflect continued progress toward ensuring more Dallas ISD students are not only passing state assessments but also demonstrating a deeper understanding of grade-level content and readiness for future academic success.

District leaders noted the results reflect continued progress in academic achievement and remain preliminary pending final verification by the Texas Education Agency.

Student Code of Conduct

The board conducted a second reading to approve the updated Student Code of Conduct for the 2026–2027 school year.

Proposed a renaming of Cesar Chavez Learning Center

Brought forward by the campus community, the board will consider the proposal to officially rename Cesar Chavez Learning Center to East Dallas Elementary School, effective for the upcoming 2026–2027 school year.
