District close to finalizing Long-Range Master Plan

Dallas ISD is close to finalizing a long-range master plan that provides data and information relative to facility assessments, conditions and capacity/enrollment at every school.

Dallas ISD trustees were briefed on the near final Long-Range Master Plan (LRMP) during a Sept. 22 workshop. The 10-year plan is the culmination of 14 months of work that included architectural firms walking and analyzing every Dallas ISD school.

Also at the Sept. 22 workshop, trustees were briefed on potential actions the district could take to address facility concerns identified by the Long-Range Master Plan. The Strategic Facilities Plan provided information regarding how the LRMP data could be utilized to make long-term decisions for the district resulting in the modernization of facilities and create greater efficiencies.  However, district officials stressed that any of these potential actions—such as consolidating, closing or building new schools—are just considerations at this point, and each decision would have to be approved by trustees and incorporate community feedback.

Other concepts may be brought forward prior to any recommendations being presented to the board.

“We must listen to and work with our community members and stakeholders as we go forward with identifying how we can make a long-term investment in district schools and a vision for renovated and modern campuses,” Deputy Superintendent Scott Layne said. “Together we can create the next generation of learning environments that set all students up for success.”

The draft presentation made to trustees during the workshop is available here.
