Students from Conrad and Hillcrest high schools volunteered to spend a recent Saturday afternoon helping clean up the White Rock Creek area.

More than 70 students from the two high schools and 21 adult volunteers filled up 126 30-gallon trash bags with garbage and debris.

Students from the two schools also competed in a first-ever Conservation Cup to see who could pick up the most trash. The Conrad High School Environmental League challenged Hillcrest to the competition.

Conrad won the Conservation Cup by collecting 23 bags of trash.

    The Conrad team members were:
    Hector Angeles
    Edgar Najera
    Moses Echavarria
    Julissa Centeno
    Crisbeth Avilez

And the Hillcrest team members were:
    Hayden Jackson
    Aydee Cardenas
    Abigail Cardenas
    Abdullah Mahdi
    Latham Davies

The next big student cleanup will be in September.
