Continuing a 24-year tradition, the State Fair of Texas recently awarded college scholarships to 91 seniors from five district high schools located near Fair Park.

The scholarships were presented at an April 29 luncheon to 21 students from Irma Rangel Young Women’s Leadership School, 12 students from James Madison High School, 20 students from Lincoln High School and 21 students from Woodrow Wilson High School.

The students each received $6,000 scholarships in recognition of their academic performance and class ranking. The scholarships are named for former State Fair of Texas chairman Pete Schenkel.
