By The Hub on March 18, 2015 Headlines

This weekend, Dallas ISD will host its annual job fair as part of its effort to get an effective teacher in every classroom.

For anyone interested in attending the job fair, here is information to make sure you’re prepared.

When and where is the job fair?

The job fair is Saturday, March 21 from 9 a.m.–12 p.m. at Emmett J. Conrad High School, 7502 Fair Oaks Ave.

    Where can I park?

You can park your vehicle in the lots behind the school. You can find additional parking at:

    • Fair Oaks Park, 7502 Fair Oaks Ave., which is a large softball complex located next to Emmett J Conrad High School.
    • Jack Lowe Sr. Elementary School, 7000 Holly Hill Drive, and Sam Tasby Middle School, 7001 Fair Oaks Ave. There will be shuttles running every few minutes throughout the event to take you to the check-in area from the two schools. The shuttle service will begin at 7:30 a.m. and run through 1 p.m. to help you return to the parking lot.

In which subject areas are Dallas ISD hiring teachers?

District principals are hiring teachers in all certification areas, including English language arts, special education, social studies, ESL and elementary generalists. The job fair will also provide information about signing incentives for bilingual education, science and mathematics.

    How do I register?

You can easily register online here.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

You may print your ticket or pull it up on your smartphone. We will need to scan the QR code in order to enter.

Do I need to bring my resume?

    Yes, bring multiple copies.

    What else should I bring?

Candidates must also bring their teaching certificates or proof of teaching eligibility to the event.

How many people are expected and how many schools will be there?

Every Dallas ISD school will be in attendance and more than 1,900 job candidates are expected.

Will some job contracts be awarded to candidates at the event?

Yes, some candidates will leave the job fair knowing they will be educating students in August. Also, some candidates may be hired on the spot for immediate positions.

Why is the job fair so important?

The job fair is a major event to help the district achieve its goal of zero vacancies by May 31. This is also the first job fair under the district’s new evaluation system that compensates teachers for their in-class performance.

Will there be any speakers at the job fair?

Yes. District leaders will speak at the event about district initiatives such as the Teacher Excellence Initiative and dual-language program. For those who don’t attend the event, the presentations will be broadcast live online here.
