As he presented a $100,000 check donation to the Dallas Education Foundation to support Dallas ISD schools impacted by the Oct. 20 tornado, John Trevino, the vice president and general manager of KDAF-TV (CW-33), remarked how this donation was especially close to his heart. Dallas ISD’s Attendance Improvement and Truancy Reduction celebrated Attendance Awareness Month with a contest. The ”Show Up” campaign urged students to have no more than five absences each school year. The contest challenged schools to have the best overall attendance and have as many of their students have perfect attendance for the month of September. Most of the time when you think of going to court it is in a negative situation, but for seventh-grade social studies students at Hill Middle School, their view may have changed on Dec. 6. The students were able to ask questions to judges and attorneys from the Dallas Bar Association in a kickoff program to teach students about the Texas court system. The program is called The Taming Texas Judicial Civics and History Project. The Dallas ISD STEM Department partnered with the Microsoft Store at NorthPark Center to provide students with hands-on and engaging computer science activities during Computer Science Week. As part of Computer Science Week, students from six Dallas ISD schools visited the Microsoft Store at NorthPark Center to learn more about STEM through engaging workshops and demonstrations. “This was a great opportunity for our students to see real-world applications of computer science and participate in a live stream with computer science professionals with similar backgrounds as the students,” Dallas ISD STEM Department Manager Crystal Alexander said. “The department has received several…
