Ten students who attend the Townview Magnet Center have received a total of $42,812 in scholarships from CIEE to study abroad this summer in France, Belgium, Spain, France, Japan, Italy, China and Morocco. In celebration of School Board Recognition Month, we are spotlighting the nine dedicated unpaid volunteers who serve as Dallas ISD trustees. Trustee Ben Mackey served as principal of Dallas ISD’s School for the Talented and Gifted from 2013 to 2019. During those years, U.S. News and World Report named the school, also known as the TAG magnet, the nation’s top high school for four years. Trustee Karla Garcia is a proud native of Southeast Dallas and a product of Dallas ISD schools. Garcia was inspired to run for Dallas ISD District 4 trustee because she wanted to address the inequities that she saw in the public school system, particularly in Southeast Dallas.
