Dallas ISD’s Social Studies Department is super excited to announce a new event to highlight the creative talents of our Ethnic Studies students – Diverse Voices. This will be a night of visual and live performances where our Ethnic Studies students will share through their creative lens what they have learned in African American Studies and Mexican American Studies courses. This event will take place at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 13, 2022, in the Skyline High auditorium. We would love to see you there!

Meet 2021-2022 Teacher of the Year finalist Will Hastings. Will Hastings, math department chair at H Grady Spruce High School, discovered that he had no love for engineering – but a deep enjoyment in tutoring his peers in higher-level mathematics – while an undergraduate Electrical Engineering major at the University of North Texas. Youth Art Month is back and in person this year, following a shutdown in 2020 and a virtual art show last year due to the pandemic. With more than 600 pieces, this year’s exhibit, which runs from now until May 7, showcases a collection of student artwork and, for the first time ever, features teacher art work as well. Meet 2021-2022 Teacher of the Year finalist Dutchess Gutierrez. Dutchess Gutierrez, dance teacher at Thomas Jefferson High School, was born in Oklahoma City before relocating to Irving and graduating from MacArthur High School. She developed a love for dance as a member of the MacArthur High School Cardettes Dance team and served as the first African-American Captain her senior year.
