Approximately 600 Dallas ISD high school and middle school athletic coaches, trainers and stadium staff attended an all-day training at Emmett J. Conrad High School, Tuesday. During the Dallas ISD Athletics Back to School Kick Off, district personnel held a mandatory UIL orientation and training and went over the Athletics Department rules and expectations. The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) announced their final list of awardees, which includes four Dallas ISD seniors. The NMSC, a not-for-profit corporation focused on recognizing and honoring the academically talented students of the United States, announced a group of winners of the 2022 National Merit Scholars on July 11. The four students are among 7,200 distinguished high school graduates who will receive scholarships for undergraduate study from sponsor colleges. Dr. Michael Hinojosa will be inducted into the fifth class of the Dallas ISD Athletic Hall of Fame along with six other impressive individuals who have made significant contributions to the district’s athletics programs. This year’s Hall of Fame nominees also include an Olympic swimming gold medalist, the winningest football coach at South Oak Cliff High School, the first female athletic coordinator in district history, a two-time consensus All-Southwest Conference quarterback, the winningest Black football coach in UIL history, and the winner of the 1986 NBA Slam Dunk Contest.
