In celebration of Assistant Principals Week, schools across the nation are thanking their assistant principals in a variety of ways. Solar Preparatory School for Girls hosted an assembly to celebrate their beloved Assistant Principal Jennifer Turner. Six Flags characters visited three Dallas ISD schools with exceptional student attendance rates as part of the district’s “Strive for No More Than 5” campaign, which recognizes students with five or fewer absences for the entire school year. Alex Sanger, Jimmy Tyler Brashear and Jerry Junkins elementary schools held pep rallies and recognition ceremonies on April 5 to celebrate their high attendance rates and Truancy Preventive Measure (TPM) Compliance rate. It was a bustling day at Ignite Middle School, which was filled with building, painting and planting as volunteers helped transform under-used outside spaces into a compelling environment for students to engage in educational outdoor activities. Ignite Middle School partnered with Out Teach to launch an outdoor classroom lab and a vegetable/herb garden centered on enhancing project-based learning by integrating experimental hands-on teaching methods. Dallas ISD Competitive Robotics, supported by the STEM-Computer Science Department, continues to excel at the highest levels. At the US Open National VEX Robotics Championship held in Iowa April 1-3, Casa View Elementary School won the Teamwork Champion Award, competing against 170 teams from all over the United States, Canada, and China. In the same event, Dallas Environmental Science Academy and Winnetka Elementary School won the Teamwork Second Place Award, and Alex Sanger Preparatory won the STEM Research Project Award.
