Saying hello makes all the difference
0Whether they are in pre-K or high school, a high five, a handshake, a fist bump, or even a simple wave can make all the difference when students enter the classroom. Two Dallas ISD teachers have harnessed the power of the greeting to establish strong relationships with their students and help them succeed. Dipcianet Galan, a teacher at Wilmer-Hutchins Elementary School, greets her 3-year-old students at the door of her classroom every morning. She asks them to pick from four different greetings and reviews the letter of the day with them, in Spanish or English, depending on her students’ language.…
District moves forward on five-year priorities
0Dallas ISD is making progress toward resetting its five-year priorities. Nearly 700 people participated in Community Listening Events, which were hosted by the Board of Trustees to facilitate conversations and get community input for the direction of the district. Throughout October and November, 16 events were held throughout the city, both in person, and virtually. And, during the meetings, attendees were given a survey with a series of questions regarding student knowledge and abilities. Stakeholders also had the opportunity to give their input online. 0The South Oak Cliff High School Golden Bears are one win away from securing their fourth consecutive trip to the UIL 5A Division II Football State Championship game. Standing in their way are the Argyle Eagles, a familiar rival, in the state semifinal. The game kicks off at 7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 13 at Southern Methodist University’s Gerald J. Ford Stadium. Dallas ISD honors outstanding educators with Campus Teacher of the Year awards
0Over 200 exceptional teachers across Dallas ISD have been recognized as 2024-2025 Campus Teachers of the Year. Representing choice, elementary, and secondary schools, these educators embody a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences, united by their commitment to accelerating student success. Among the celebrated honorees is Beverly Tillmon, a dedicated teacher with 50 years of service at Personalized Learning Academy at Highland Meadows. These outstanding educators now have the opportunity to compete for the district-wide Teacher of the Year award.
