Early voting starts Oct. 22 for Tax Ratification Election
0Dallas County voters will consider a Tax Ratification Election (TRE) for Dallas ISD on the Nov. 6 ballot. A TRE is a special election called by a school district’s board of trustees that asks voters to approve an increase in its maintenance and operating (M&O) tax rate. M&O taxes cover the day-to-day cost of school district operations. Since 2008, Dallas ISD has maintained an M&O tax rate of $1.04. The approval of voters is required for the district to exceed the $1.04 rate. If approved, the tax ratification election would increase the M&O tax rate to the state cap of $1.17. Learn…
Quintanilla Middle students receive iPads as part of Verizon initiative
0Students from Raul Quintanilla Sr. Middle School were the fifth group of Dallas ISD middle schools to receive iPads and two years of data service through the Verizon Innovative Learning program. Verizon’s $9 million commitment – $1.8 million per school – is designed to provide a way for students to do schoolwork on campus and at home using the devices, even if they do not have Internet service in their homes. Students at Atwell, Cary, Lang and Medrano middle schools were the others in this year’s distribution. Hinojosa shares long-range master plan with eye on district’s future
0Superintendent Michael Hinojosa recently shared a message with students, staff and families on how Dallas ISD’s first-ever Long-Range Master Plan could impact the future of Dallas. The conversation has just begun and the district continues to look at various concepts provided to the Board of Trustees for discussion during a September workshop, which was open to the public. 0Principal for a Day brought business and community leaders from the private sector into Dallas ISD schools on Tuesday, Oct. 9. More than 200 volunteers accepted the opportunity to shadow Dallas ISD principals to gain an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at the school district. Capital One Bank and the Dallas Regional Chamber again partnered with Dallas ISD for the annual event, which looks to form ongoing partnerships between individuals and businesses with Dallas ISD schools.
