As part of High School Choice Awareness Week happening Jan. 19–22, all current eighth graders will learn about potential best-fit high schools based on their interests and future career aspirations. Dallas ISD Home Visitation Program Expands to Several Schools with Predominantly Black Student Populations

In an effort to build trusting relationships with families and learn if there are any specific barriers they can help students overcome, Dallas ISD has expanded its home visitation program to serve five additional schools with predominantly Black student populations. Through the Home2Home Visit Initiative, select teachers from Birdie Alexander Elementary School, and Boude Storey, Kennedy-Curry, O. W. Holmes and Zumwalt middle schools are now conducting virtual home visits with parents that opt in the program. After getting feedback from more than 10,000 stakeholders, including teachers and campus leaders, and engaging in multiple virtual community meetings, Dallas ISD is proposing three calendar models that would provide more learning time for the students that need it most. District leaders discussed the proposed calendars with trustees during the Jan. 14 briefing.
