Dallas ISD debaters exercise civil discourse and democracy at Mayor’s Cup Public Debate
0Using one of America’s founding principles of democracy: debate, Dallas ISD students participated in the 4th Annual Mayor’s Cup Public Debate on February 15 at the Old Parkland Hospital Complex. The public debate was hosted by Dallas City Mayor Eric Johnson and the Dallas Urban Debate Alliance. Focusing on the importance of civil discourse to the city, businesses, and society, Mayor Johnson told the students and audience that healthy and rigorous debate helps all of us make reasonable decisions about the future. Dallas ISD celebrates National School Counseling Week
0National School Counseling Week 2022, sponsored by the American School Counselor Association, is February 7–11 and highlights the tremendous impact school counselors have in helping students achieve school success. Dallas ISD’s 435 counselors partner with parents, teachers, administrators, and other district staff to enhance students’ academic, career, and social and emotional development. School counselors are certified, experienced educators with a master’s degree in school counseling. The combination of their training and experience makes them an integral part of the total educational program.
Two Dallas ISD schools nominated for National Blue Ribbon Award
0Two Dallas ISD schools are among 26 public schools in Texas nominated for the National Blue Ribbon, to be awarded in the fall. The School for the Talented and Gifted and the School of Science and Engineering, both at Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center, are nominated for the ribbon, the highest honor an American school can achieve. 0Due to anticipated inclement weather, all Dallas ISD schools and administrative offices will be closed Thursday, Feb. 3 and Friday, Feb. 4. Schools will not be expected to make up these days. For additional updates, please visit dallasisd.org or the district’s social media channels. In addition, all after-school activities, extracurricular programs, tutoring and athletic events are canceled from Wednesday, Feb. 2, to Saturday, Feb. 5. Testing for magnet and International Baccalaureate admission that was scheduled for Saturday has been canceled and will be rescheduled.
