Few educators have more opportunities and authority to impact their students than coaches. Dallas ISD’s Athletics Department wants its coaches to maximize their ability to help students excel. When retired NFL great Tim Brown is formally inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame this weekend, lots of local fans will share the pride of his accomplishment, not the least of them being Dallas ISD, which is where Brown got his start. With a new school year on the horizon, Dallas ISD’s Food and Child Nutrition Services has been hard at work to find new ways to help fuel student success by offering breakfast, lunch and in some cases dinner at district schools. For the third year, Dallas ISD will provide school meals at no charge to all district students. Families are not required to complete the free or reduce lunch application to receive free meals. The Dallas Mayor’s Intern program celebrated its biggest year yet with a luncheon on Thursday that allowed the hundreds of participating Dallas public high school students to celebrate their hard work. As Mayor Mike Rawlings took the stage at the Omni Hotel, he congratulated the 350 student interns for helping improve the city. Rawlings commended the students for their aspirations and communication skills that helped them stand out from the more than 1,000 students who applied to the program.
