One of Dallas ISD’s southernmost high schools is counting on the 2015 bond program to help address its growing pains. Administrators at Seagoville High School expect 85 teachers and 1,518 students to report to class in August 2017, up from an enrollment of 1,355 in 2016-2017. It’s a Tuesday morning in June, and a group of young students are making their very own “Bubble Blasters,” complete with flashing lights, an enormous cardboard castle and “snowball” throwers. The Bubble Blaster is just one of the students’ creations from Camp Invention, a weeklong camp that reinforces STEM learning with fun hands-on activities. A recent Dallas Independent School (Dallas ISD) graduate Caleb Myers, was selected by the Council of the Great City Schools (CGCS) to receive the 2017 ExxonMobil Bernard Harris Math and Science Scholarship. Myers was one of four students chosen from several hundred applicants in big-city school districts across the nation for academic performance, leadership qualities and community involvement.
