Former C.A. Tatum Jr. Elementary School students Salvador Medina and Shanice Parker, who will graduate from Skyline High School next month, returned to their old school to receive a $1,000 scholarship for college. The students were awarded the C.A. Tatum Jr. Scholarship to the University of North Texas. “We are extremely proud to celebrate such an auspicious occasion where both students were awarded the C.A. Tatum Jr. Scholarship to the University of North Texas,” said Tatum Elementary Principal Enrique Rodriguez. “We look forward to celebrating this event again next year and continuing our strong partnership with Skyline High School.”

After successfully growing high-quality pre-K for early learners and opening new collegiate academies for high school students, Dallas ISD is turning its attention to “the last frontier”: middle school. A new initiative would bring strategies proven to lift school performance–strategic staffing, instructional excellence, social and emotional support, extended learning and supportive partnerships–to 24 Dallas ISD middle schools. Arlington Park Early Childhood Center and N.W. Harllee Early Childhood Center are receiving a $45,000 foundation grant to enhance classroom areas, provide additional educational materials and the acquisition of family-home libraries. PNC Financial Services Group announced the grant in partnership with United Way Dallas during an April 4 event at Arlington Park Early Childhood Center. Kimball High School cheerleaders and band members visited nine feeder pattern elementary schools to motivate students to ace the STAAR test. L.O. Más de 500 voluntarios dedicaron su fin de semana a instalar equipo nuevo y muebles, embellecer los jardines y pintar Alex Spence Middle School and Talented and Gifted Academy. This past weekend, school districts across Texas hosted their University Interscholastic League (UIL) Spring Academic meets in which students competed in more than 20 academic competitive events ranging from speaking to STEM to writing contests. With 25 schools qualifying to advance to regionals, more than 400 Dallas ISD students competed in UIL Academics in four districts: 3A-11, 4A-12, 5A-12 and 6A-8. To be eligible for UIL Regionals, students had to place first, second or third in their respective contests.
