Joseph Contreras is a Lead Dyslexia Evaluator who has partnered with parents and professionals in Dallas ISD for over 18 years to identify students with dyslexia and help them find success. For his great work, the Dallas International Dyslexia Association chose Contreras to receive the 2020 Excellence in Education Award. He was recently recognized at Dallas IDA’s 2020 Regional Conference on Feb. 7. The mock trial team from the Judge Barefoot Sanders Law Magnet took first place at the recent 2020 Dallas Regional Mock Trial competition. The Law Magnet advances to the state competition with teams from Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, Skyline High School and the School for the Talented and Gifted (TAG). Comerica Bank and its community partner KPMG’s Family for Literacy Dallas donated 4,000 new books to Benjamin Franklin International Exploratory School on Jan. 30. Former Texas Rangers infielder Michael Young also participated in the literacy event, helping Comerica and KPMG volunteers distribute books to more than 400 eighth-graders.
