Dallas ISD remains committed to following the recommendations from the county and public health agencies, and in order to protect the health and safety of our families and staff, the district will now be distributing meals on Thursdays only. Students will be able to pick up about a week’s worth of breakfasts, lunches and dinners. Dallas ISD looks forward to continue serving our students with meal distributions every Thursday from 10 a.m.–1 p.m. Please visit www.dallasisd.org/grabandgomeals to identify the meals included in the bags for each day, as well as to get preparation directions. All Dallas ISD playgrounds are closed while the city is under the stay-at-home order to help combat the coronavirus threat. Dallas ISD playgrounds join the city playgrounds in being shut down as part of the city’s stay-at-home order. Violating the city’s stay-at-home order carries a fine between $50-$2,000. People who see someone using a Dallas ISD playground while the city is under the stay-at-home order can contact the Dallas ISD hotline at 972-925-5555.

Dallas ISD served more than 211,000 meals to nearly 24,000 students on the second day of bulk grab-and-go meal service on March 26. Each meal package given to students had breakfast, lunch and dinner for three days. Starting next week, Seagoville High School and E.D. Walker Middle School will no longer offer meal service, while Leonides Gonzalez Cigarroa Elementary School will start providing grab-and-go bulk meals. Junior League of Dallas has awarded $4,000 scholarships to 10 female seniors at Emmett J. Conrad and Thomas Jefferson high schools through its Women LEAD scholarship program. One of several Junior League programs that benefits Dallas ISD students, LEAD is an acronym for Learn, Excel, Achieve, Dream. The annual scholarship program is open to seniors at Conrad, Jefferson and South Oak Cliff high schools. Seniors submit applications in December, and 10 finalists are named in March and invited to prepare and present speeches to the scholarship committee, which names the winners.
