Each week they prepare and distribute thousands of free meals via curbside pick-up. They are our heroes! Help us celebrate them! The week of April 27-30 will be Super Hero Gratitude Week. The new elementary school currently under construction in Wilmer, TX, is named for 14-term Dallas Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson. Eddie Bernice Johnson Elementary School will consist of 84,000 square feet of classrooms and other learning spaces designed to serve 600 students in grades pre-K through five. The $23 million school will include a soccer field, basketball court and playground. Infrastructure improvements to serve the new facility will include expansion of nearby Goode Street to a four-lane thoroughfare with a traffic signal at Belt Line Road. Dallas ISD schools will be closed for the remainder of the school year. Gov. Greg Abbott announced on April 17 that public and private schools will remain closed for the rest of the school year to help combat the spread of COVID-19. Abbott said he made the decision based on advice of doctors and health officials. While school buildings are closed, students’ education continues through at-home learning.
