Following Gov. Greg Abbott’s executive order lifting the mandatory mask-wearing requirement, Texas Education Agency released guidance for schools to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19. Schools must continue to require students and staff to wear masks. Based on these guidelines and our commitment to student and staff safety, Dallas ISD will continue following our current health and safety protocols requiring that students and staff wear masks over their nose and mouth and adhere to hand-washing and social distancing practices when on district property. We appreciate everyone’s understanding and cooperation. We will bring updates as they are provided.

Walnut Hill Elementary School fue reconocida por America’s Language Working Group gracias a sus excepcionales programas de aprendizaje de idiomas. En la escuela se enseña chino mandarín y se ofrecen programas para que los estudiantes aprendan a hablar, leer y escribir en inglés y en español. La Academia Nocturna es una de las opciones que ofrece Dallas ISD a los estudiantes para ayudarlos a superar obstáculos para poder graduarse de la preparatoria. La academia, que comienza el 8 de marzo, ya está aceptando a estudiantes para el curso en línea que completarán a su propio ritmo. Está diseñada para estudiantes de los grados 9 a 12 que tienen dificultad para asistir a clases tradicionales. The America’s Language Working Group recognized Walnut Hill Elementary for their exceptional language-learning programs. The school teaches Mandarin Chinese to all their students and offers programs to develop bilingualism and biliteracy in English and in Spanish. The Dallas CIO Leadership Association (DallasCIO) has named Jack Kelanic, Dallas ISD’s chief technology officer, the winner of the 2021 Dallas CIO of the Year® ORBIE® Awards in the Public Sector category. This technology executive recognition program in the United States recognizes chief information officers, and those in equivalent roles, who have demonstrated excellence in technology leadership. As the district’s chief technology officer, Kelanic brings more than 20 years of technology leadership experience to his post. His responsibilities include developing the long-range technology plan to enable digital learning for Dallas ISD students and improving technology support for schools and district business operations.

Transparency, equity and collaboration are three words Construction Services executives are using to describe their approach to the rollout of bond 2020 renovations and construction projects. In their first public report to trustees on Feb. 11, the leadership team shared the philosophy they said will guide the construction plan and shared a list of  29 construction projects underway,  21 set to begin and 13 schools assigned for replacement. Evening Academy is one among many options Dallas ISD provides to students to help overcome obstacles to high school graduation. Now pre-registering students for a March 8 launch, the online self-paced classes meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings and are designed for 9-12 students who may face obstacles that prevent them from attending traditional classes. Others like the online platform or want to make up lost credits or earn additional credits. The online curriculum gives students 24-hour-a-day, 7-day-a-week access to their coursework. Roger B. Brown fue una leyenda en la comunidad deportiva y de béisbol del Dallas ISD que dio su consejo a los jugadores y entrenadores después de los partidos, invitó a cazatalentos que observaron a los jugadores del distrito para reclutarlos en equipos universitarios y ayudó de incontables maneras más. Brown fue el primer periodista deportivo afroamericano contratado a tiempo completo por el Fort Worth Star-Telegram y pasó a presentar un programa de radio deportivo en KKDA-AM hasta 2012.
