Building literacy skills is crucial in helping ensure lifelong success for every student. Dallas ISD is taking a future-focused comprehensive approach to ensure students have the foundational skills they need. Across all grade levels, the number of students who passed the Reading portion of the STAAR exam dropped by 5.8 percentage points from 2019 to 2021. As part of the It’s L.I.T. The Dallas Mavericks and Kristaps Porzingis, in partnership with Whataburger, hosted a #KrisStops Campaign Celebration on July 13 that included a $10,000 donation to the Dallas Education Foundation, the nonprofit, philanthropic arm of Dallas ISD. Mary Crossland was among the first group of Black educators on the frontlines of desegregation, who joined the faculty of predominantly White schools in the early ’70s.
