The Dan D. Rogers Elementary School boys and girls basketball teams got a big boost going into their final game of the regular season: drills and tips from Southern Methodist University basketball players.

SMU players inspired Dan. D Rogers students on March 20.

Five SMU players— Jimmy Whitt, Everett Ray, Isiaha Mike, Ethan Chargois, Shake Milton— and Coach Nemanja Jovanovic visited Rogers Elementary on March 20. Rogers Elementary Principal Lisa Lovato invited the SMU players to the campus.

“These SMU players are a model of what our students can strive to be,” Lovato said.

The SMU players taught students dribbling and shooting drills.

Coach Jovanovic said the team was happy to motivate and run drills with the aspiring elementary basketball players.

“Both the kids and players have had a great time today,” Jovanovic said. “We are privileged to be able to give back to the community in a fun way.”
