Blast from the past

Students who were eighth-graders at Quintinilla Middle School in 2007 returned to the school to pick up and read letters they wrote to themselves 10 years ago. Some students cried; some students laughed; and many students did both. (Watch a video)

Heartbeat of a campus

National School Nurse Day was Wednesday, and it was an opportunity to thank the Dallas ISD nurses on the front lines of student health. (Learn more)

Counselor of the Year

Bowie Elementary counselor Aimey Cole was named the Dallas ISD 2017-2018 Counselor of the Year at a special ceremony on Tuesday. The ceremony also recognized a variety of outstanding counselors who serve as the heartbeat of their campuses. (Read this)

Conservation Cup

Conrad and Hillcrest students participated in the first-ever Conservation Cup to see who could pick up the most trash in the White Rock Creek area. (Learn more)

Turning lemons into learning

Students at SOLAR Prep School for Girls turned lemons into a Project Based Learning experience. Their long-term project saw them build and paint lemonade stands, develop ads and sales techniques, and make and sell their own lemonade. (Learn more)

Fairway to Success

Six seniors each received a $20,000 Fairway to Success college scholarship from Deloitte, the Northern Texas PGA and United Way. (Read this)

Heart of Child Nutrition Award

Five exemplary cafeteria teams received the district’s annual Heart of Child Nutrition Award as part of School Nutrition Employee Week. (Learn more)

Having a ball

Brashear and DeGoyler elementary schools have advanced to the finals of a ballroom dancing competition being held in Arlington next week. (Read this)

Coach Garrett brings the books

Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett’s Starfish Charities celebrated the end of a three-week book study at Gabe Allen Elementary. Garret’s wife Brill helped established the program as a volunteer reader at the school. (Watch this)

Student performance goes viral

This video of an Anne Frank Elementary kindergartener singing “La de Mochila Azul” has gone viral, earning more than 130,000 views in less than one week. (Watch the video)
