This year’s Dallas ISD STEM Expo was bigger, better and more fun! Conducted for the first time at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, the event provided family fun focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

Caroline, a parent who attended the Expo, said the district’s large size that activities available in one school might not be available in another.

“When kids get to come here, they get to see all the offerings that DISD has, all the different activities, from robotics to the kinesiology-type activities, engineering,” she said. “I think it’s great they can what there is to experience all over DISD.”

This year’s event saw new additions, including more exhibits and hands-on STEM activities for girls, an under-represented population among STEM-related careers.

“This is the future of jobs, and the future of what kinds of skills these kids are going to need as they move on,” said Jeff Marx, director of Dallas ISD Computer Science & Technology. “It’s a great way to get them engaged in all things STEM, and it’s great to get the parents out to let them know they support their kids in that kind of activity.”

Next year’s STEM Expo is set for Jan. 20, 2018.
