    African Americans have had immeasurable impact and contributed to the quality, progress and access of education to all races and creeds within the Dallas Independent School District and community. Read about some of our schools’ namesakes and their historical contributions to Dallas ISD.

    Yvonne A. Ewell: Yvonne A. Ewell graduated from George Washington Carver High School and earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree. She began her career as a teacher in Ladonia, Texas, before moving to Dallas to teach for Dallas ISD. Ewell later became a principal at Arlington High School. Ewell spent the last 11 years prior to her retirement as a member of the Dallas Public Schools’ Board of Education in District 5.

    Ewell is the namesake of Dallas ISD’s Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Magnet Center located at 1201 E 8th St.
