DESA Cafeteria Team 2++To say the faculty and students of Dallas Environmental Science Academy love their cafeteria staff is a major understatement. Invited to nominate the cafeteria staff for the Heart of Child Nutrition Award sponsored by the Food and Child Nutrition Services Department, the school responded with a whopping 141 nominations — the most of any district school. Tuesday, FCNS Executive Director Dora Rivas presented the DESA cafeteria workers their award.

Food Services Specialist Amy Jah, who works with the team at DESA, describes the team as among the district’s best. “Ms. Rodriguez and her staff strive to excel in all aspects of child nutrition. From serving nutritional meals to practicing a safe work environment, the ladies at DESA are always going over and beyond. Their work ethic never fails.”

To underscore the honor, Jah says when DESA students learned about the recognition they broke into spontaneous applause to show their appreciation for the beloved cafeteria staff.
