Digital Media Fair to highlight student-created technology projects that promote healthy habits

The Health and Physical Education Department is looking for student-created videos, newsletters, apps, and animations that promote exercise, nutrition, disease prevention and healthy habits.

Students who use these and other digital projects to educate the community about health and wellness can win prizes such as USB flash drives, wristband pedometers and digital projectors by entering their creations in Dallas ISD’s first-ever Digital Media Fair. The competition is open to students at all grade levels and all subject areas. Entries will be judged by a panel of experts. For guidelines and directions about how to enter projects, visit http://tiny.cc/mvp2015.

The fair’s winning entries will be displayed at the May 21 Tech Fest event sponsored by Health and PE. In addition to the media fair, Tech Fest will feature fitness demonstrations and activities designed to showcase the ways physical education teachers are using technology to educate and excite students about health and physical fitness. The theme for the event is Tech Fest 2015: Where Innovation, Movement, and Technology Combine to Transform Learning. Click here for a flyer with more details about Tech Fest, which is set for Thursday, May 21, at Ann Richards Middle School at 3831 N. Prairie Creek Road.

To see an animated description of the types of entries welcome at the Digital Media Fair, go here. The deadline for entries is Wednesday, May 13. Further information about the media fair and Tech Fest are available from Lance Johanson, Health and Physical Education Department, at ljohanson@dallasisd.org or 972-925-6736.
