A recent Dallas Independent School (Dallas ISD) graduate Caleb Myers, was selected by the Council of the Great City Schools (CGCS) to receive the 2017 ExxonMobil Bernard Harris Math and Science Scholarship. Myers was one of four students chosen from several hundred applicants in big-city school districts across the nation for academic performance, leadership qualities and community involvement. Recognizing the importance of public education, the Greenville Avenue Area Business Association (GAABA) continues its support of the following high schools: Emmett J. Conrad, North Dallas and Woodrow Wilson. The Playwrights Under Progress (PUP) Fest on Saturday will feature plays written and performed by Dallas ISD students. Dallas ISD, Kitchen Dog Theater and Junior Players have joined together to host PUP Fest at Booker T. Washington High School for the Visual and Performing Arts. Volunteers who helped tutor Dallas ISD students via a computer throughout the school year met with the students face-to-face at end-of-year celebrations across the district. TutorMate is an online tutoring program that connects volunteers with first-grade students learning to read.
