Mauricio García and Nancy Cazarez are proud new parents of a six-month-old baby, after being married for two years. Their story began at Annie Webb Blanton Elementary School, while Cazarez taught second grade and García first grade. Together, they have worked a total of 25 years in Dallas ISD. Despite the pandemic, Dallas ISD competitive robotics continues to shine. This year 24 teams at 13 schools advanced to the VEX Robotics World Championship taking place from May 24-29. The teams will compete virtually from their school and use video cameras to capture the action as well as communicate with teams from all over the world. Additionally, 14 FIRST LEGO League teams advanced to the North Texas Regional Championship. Sunset High School varsity cheer caption Jourdyn Hawkins knows how to start and finish strong. Last fall, Hawkins made Sunset athletic history as she was one of four cheerleaders from Sunset High School to make the National Cheerleading Association’s (NCA) All-American team.  Now, as her senior year quickly comes to an end, it is on another high note as her team took first place in the Game Day category at the “Sock it To Em” Nationals competition on April 18.
