Reading Interventionist Program is building on its success
0For nearly three years, some Dallas ISD students needing extra support in reading have been finding that support through the district’s Reading Interventionist Program. The results have been so promising that as this new school year begins, the program is expanding to nearly every elementary campus in the district. The program began in March 2021, with six elementary and four middle schools serving primarily African American campuses to provide equity in literacy and close learning gaps for students on those campuses. In partnership with the district’s Racial Equity Office, the district’s Multi-Tiered Systems of Support Department (MTSS) used the MAP…
Lesson-planning programs help teachers guide students in connecting the dots
0There are two words Dallas ISD teachers are excited about as they prepare this year’s lesson plans: “Amplify” and “Eureka.” Each is a lesson-planning program that maps out a base curriculum for students and teachers. All district campuses began using the programs on the first day of the 2023-2024 school year. Anson Jones Elementary School, the first to pilot the Amplify program three years ago, has already seen tremendous growth in students’ academic success. For Omar U., seeing a life-sized jet engine in the Skyline Student Center was the realization he needed to pursue aviation rather than art, which was his original plan after middle school. “It opened a…
Dallas ISD students make positive gains, exceed pre-pandemic performance levels in Meets
0Students in Dallas ISD are closing the academic achievement gap and are exceeding pre-pandemic STAAR performances in the Meets Grade Level category in reading, which means more students are on grade level. This positive movement gives students and educators an encouraging boost to start the new school year. Based on the most recent STAAR exam administered by the Texas Education Agency (TEA), reading and math scores in grades 3-8 show gains in 27 of the 36 categories in Approaches, Meets, and Masters, with no change in five of the categories and negligible dips in the remaining four. Dallas ISD students…
