Dallas ISD continuing to monitor developments with the Ebola virus

The Dallas Independent School District continues to monitor developments with the Ebola virus and is deploying staff to assist where help is needed. Today, following the news of the death of Ebola patient Thomas Duncan, the district sent letters home to parents at every school to direct them to online resources about the disease. In addition, counselors and psychological services teams were sent to the campuses where five students who were exposed to the virus more than a week ago attended. Those students, who are now being served through the Hospital/Homebound program, have yet to show any signs or symptoms…

The call of action was for all men to stand up and take the pledge. “I pledge to help stop domestic violence because…” That simple pledge garnered the attention of hundreds of student-athletes across north Texas last year and has now extended internationally. Josh Ragsdale, head football coach of W. H. Adamson High School, along with members of his football team, started the campaign from scratch more than one year ago. Five new temperature scanners, which measure a student’s temperature, are being placed in each of Dallas ISD’s “watch” schools. Those are the campuses where students were identified as having been exposed to the sole U.S. Ebola patient. And that reading happens in a matter of seconds. “It doesn’t take very long, it’s not invasive. The kids would find it, I think, fun,” said Rumsey.
