Dallas ISD to shine at Earth Day Texas this weekend
0Forty-seven Dallas ISD schools and departments will showcase their environmental projects and programs with visitors during Earth Day Texas. The free, public event is set for April 24–26, 10 a.m.- 6 p.m., at Fair Park. Students, their parents, and staff members are encouraged to visit the festival, which will aim to show how adopting sustainable products, practices and services can improve quality of life, save money and help the environment. The festival offers an action-packed collection of exhibits, entertainment and information relating to the environment. State Fair of Texas gives scholarships to 55 Dallas ISD graduating seniors
0Fifty-five graduating seniors from five Dallas ISD schools were recognized on Tuesday, April 21, for receiving 2015 State Fair of Texas Pete Schenkel Scholarship Awards. This marks the 23rd year of the Fair’s Youth Scholarship Program. The awards are named for a former chairman of the State Fair of Texas board. Students from the five high schools closest to the fairgrounds were eligible to apply. Each recipient will be awarded $6,000 per year, renewable for up to four years. Dallas ISD schools ranked among most challenging in nation
0Three Dallas ISD schools are among the top 15 most challenging schools in the nation, according to a new report from the Washington Post. The School for the Talented and Gifted at Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center, School of Science and Engineering at Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center, and the Irma Lerma Rangel Young Women’s Leadership School were, respectively, ranked as the third, fourth, and fifteenth most challenging U.S. school. Salary range for Dallas ISD teachers increases to $50,000-$90,000
0Dallas ISD teachers will have the ability to earn a higher salary at a faster rate under the district’s new salary schedule. In the 2015–16 school year, the starting base salary for new Dallas ISD teachers will be $50,000. For reference, new teachers previously had a starting salary of $47,382. Meanwhile, newly hired teachers with more than two years of teaching experience will have the ability to earn a base salary of $58,000, with the capacity in the coming years to earn up to $90,000.
